The transition period at the PSG during the first six months of President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s administration is faced with challenges foremost of which is the immediate training of the newly assigned personnel. The new VIP protectors must be trained and must pass the qualification standards required in order to fill up the manning requirements of Protective Security Operations for the President.
On November 22, 2016, an Instructor Development Training (IDT) program in cooperation with the Training and Doctrine Command, Philippine Army led by COL LEQUEL A SANTOS INF (GSC) PA kicked off and 18-day training program held at the PSG Training School.
A 13-man Mobile Training Team from TRADOC supervised the activity that culminated on December 9, 2016. This led to the standardization of the instructional and management courses and training of the PSG.
Students were taught to make sure that the training materials were complete, integrated, and accurate; that knowledge and skills shared must meet the requirements for a VIP protector; and that learning objectives must be met.
Hopefully, graduate students of the IDT program will become better instructors who will improve training management, which in turn will positively contribute to better preparations in January for the Philippines hosting of the ASEAN Summit in 2017.
